The Romeo Community Schools Board of Education in Michigan have unanimously approved a funding bill to replace more than 400 computers and laptops across the district, the Romeo Observer recently reported.
According to the news provider, the $300,000 will provide necessary technology upgrades, allowing the district to replace computers purchased back in 2003. Technology executive director Mark Nelson said many of the devices are also no longer covered under their warranties and it has been difficult to locate replacement parts for others.
Nelson also said at the meeting that schools deal with hardware failures on a daily basis, the Observer reported.
Schools with aging technology have several helpful options at their disposal. For example, new devices like a tablet computer, an interactive whiteboard or a
DLP projector can help districts upgrade their infrastructure.
Romeo High School principal Mike Kaufman said the funding will help promote new learning capabilities for the district.
"With our aging technology in the classroom, it becomes increasingly more difficult to keep pace with the applications and best practices that our teachers are working hard to implement," he said, according to the Observer.
